Year 8 Casino Royale Big Weekend
Ian Fleming may not have had the McMullen Hall in mind when he wrote Casino Royale, however the Elstree boys and the Downe House girls did their best to add a touch of glamour and sophistication to the prep school world on Saturday night. Fortunately the whiff of smoke and sweat was a missing ingredient as the boys and girls mingled effortlessly as they moved between tables, pomegranate mojitos in hand.
As always the croupiers left the casino with smiles on their faces, although there were one or two children who understood that at “gambling the deadly sin is to mistake bad play for bad luck”. The most successful boy was Freddy C who played the percentages on the roulette wheel, amassing $1170 by the end of the evening and for the girls it was Anna who won $1965 following a marathon poker session. Not a bad return from an initial stake of $100!
It wasn’t quite as glamourous for the junior boarders as they headed to Tesco for a ‘Supermarket Sweep’. The aim of the game was to produce a culinary masterpiece on a shoestring budget. Pizza topped with Twix and salami was one entry, although the winning creation was an ice cream topped with candy hair and some imaginatively used Crème Eggs.
All the boarders came together on Sunday morning for a Tech Camp laser tag session in Plantation. The boys had a huge amount of fun as the braved the Arctic winds. The weekend was rounded off with the now obligatory game of Lions and a 90 minute evening dodge ball session. Their energy never ceases to amaze…
