Year 2 Football Tournaments

It has been a busy week for Year 2 with the London Schools’ Tournament and the Junior Soccer Festival taking place. The excitement has been building steadily as the children eagerly awaited the culmination of a term of football and plenty of practice at playtimes.  On Monday 17th March they played Hawksdown and Orchard House and then participated in the Junior Soccer Festival at Elstree which involved 25 teams.  The weather was unusually kind and both events took place in lovely spring sunshine which certainly added to the enjoyment.

During all the matches, which were closely contested, the children displayed great enthusiasm and there were many encouraging signs of future footballing stars as they hone their skills and learn to play as a team.  Although the children were undoubtedly tired at the end of the afternoon they chatted happily about the exciting moments of each match, describing the fantastic passes, goals or saves they had made during the afternoon.  By the time their energy levels had been restored by  match tea, they were wishing that they could repeat the whole experience.  The Year 1 children are already looking forward to their turn next year.

A huge thank you to Mr Bates and Mr Morris for their organisation which ensured the success of all the tournaments and to the Year 7 and 8 boys who helped with the visiting teams and refereeing.
