Year 8 Big Weekend
The Year 8 Big Weekend is always a keenly anticipated event in the boarding calendar with the Downe House social as the highlight.
This term welcomed the inaugural Silent Disco in Woolhampton’s hottest venue; The McMullen Hall. The children where all dressed up in their finest disco attire, their hair neatly brushed and smelling great in time to welcome the Down House girls.
The evening got off to a great start, the headphones were handed out and the children could not wait to get dancing. The Elstree team led their guests onto the dancefloor for a fun-filled evening of laughter and serious moves! Thanks to our amazing head DJ Mr Morris and his very able sidekick Miss Gilbert, the Year 8’s were dancing in no time. They had three channels to choose from and the DJ’s did not disappoint. All the full-boarders came down and joined in too, and it was lovely to see everyone dancing around happily.
After some impressive dance moves, including the worm, it was time for a well-earned snack. However, it did not take long for the children to get right back out on the dance floor. It was great to see both sets of staff getting fully involved too!
Watching the silent disco is always amusing – a whole lot of dancing and singing at the top of their voices, without hearing the music! Sadly all good things must come to end and to finish our DJ’s played us out with The Macarena, what a way to end! The children certainly made the most of what was on offer before getting a good night’s sleep ahead of their trip to France the next morning.
Thank you to the Downe House girls and staff for making it another hugely successful social. A huge thank you also to Mr Hepburn for organising the silent disco and Mr Morris and the Gappers for all their dance moves and music input. A great evening was had by all.
In the morning the year 8’s had an early start. After breakfast all packed and looking smart in their uniform we bid them au revoir and they set off on their French Trip.
