Year 7 Trip to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park

On the 15th September Year 7 went on a trip to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. We went to see the improvements made to East London and how it has been made sustainable as part of the Olympic Legacy. We met our guide at the station and we then got on a train to Hackney Wick to see what the Park would have looked like before the Games. Then we went to have a look inside the Park’s own Energy Centre. There we had a brief introduction to the Park and studied a map of the area that is now being redeveloped.

After that we went into the centre of the Park and had lunch. We then went around the different arenas and discussed the sustainability and the materials that they had been made out of. We were lucky enough to go inside the Velodrome and were all amazed at how steep the track was. We then wandered down to the Athletes Village which has been renamed ‘The East Village’. We were told that all the different blocks had been designed by different architects and how they are sustainable. Overall it was an amazing day and thank you very much to Miss Pinder for organising the trip, and to Mr Murray, Mr Lexton and Mr Jones for coming with us.
