Year 7 Big Weekend

We had a brilliant response to the Year 7 Big Weekend with almost everybody in the Year signing up.  With 6 Nations rugby, the chance to socialise with the Downe House girls and Zorb Football on the programme, it was easy to see why!  Even a thick blanket of snow covering Elstree was not enough to put us off and after some free time playing outside and some hot showers to warm up again we dragged sofas, bean bags and cushions into the Long Room to watch England v Ireland.  At half-time, England were ahead but we had to head off to supper where we filled up on pizza before jumping on the coach to take us to Downe House.  The girls gave us a warm welcome and after some initial hesitation to engage the opposition, the ice was broken and soon everyone was mingling and chatting happily.  We were called through to the main hall and the quiz got underway. The questions were very well pitched but by half-time it was clear that Harry L’s group had built a good lead!  After a short break  we returned to the fray, but no one could catch Harry’s team 4 and they took the spoils for the night. There was just time for some (more!) pizza and frantic swapping of ‘phone numbers and Instagram handles, before we said our goodbyes and thanks yous and headed back to Elstree.

We had a very leisurely start to Sunday with some films and TV before tucking into a full-English breakfast!  The boys were split into two groups with half playing Zorb Football in the Sports Hall and the other half sledging down ‘Death Hill’ in canoes, on tackle shields and anything else the boys could find!  We then switched over after about an hour so everyone got a chance to have a go.

At midday all the parents arrived to take the boys home.  It was such a fun weekend and the boys were excellent company and represented Elstree admirably. My thanks to Mr Morris, Mr Williams, Miss Carrol and Mr.Prichard for giving up their time over the weekend.
