Year 6 Visit Reading Mosque and Church

In their comparative study of Christianity and Islam, Year 6 took the rare opportunity to visit a Mosque and Church in Reading. Having removed all footwear, our imam jollied us through a custom-built washing room and many chairless prayer halls and corridors, all with the same parallel lines for praying towards Mecca. All the while, the boy’s curiosity flowed out and the imam answered intriguingly on Muslims’ attitudes to prayer and the view of Islam as an extension of Christianity.

Our visit to Greyfriar’s Church reminded us the amazing differences between places of worship and beliefs. The Church staff ran stations on Baptism, Worship, Beliefs and Communion, discussing what Christians believe, while passing round tasty bread and juice and performing a (faux) adult baptism in the pool. Thanks to our guides and teachers for a very meaningful morning.
