Year 6 Big Weekend

The Year 6 Big Weekend was a great success and the children all thoroughly enjoyed the variety of activities that had been planned for them.

Activities on offer

After a busy afternoon of sport,  the Year 6 Big Weekend kicked off with some relaxing games on Yard before supper taking advantage of the Zip Line, Adventure Playground and outdoor table tennis table. After a delicious meal, they moved onto the front lawn to construct a giant catapult,  learning a few knots and lashings in the process, before getting soaked  with water bombs when the catapult was put into action.

The children then moved into the sports hall to make their own mini catapults, before testing their skills in the pop-up shooting gallery, complete with targets of their favourite teachers! Their evening of activities was appropriately rounded off with marshmallows and hot chocolate by the campfire before heading back to the dorms and bed.

On Sunday morning, after a full English breakfast to fortify them for their morning activity, they played Laser tag in Park and around the school grounds before heading home to rest before another busy week of school on Monday morning!

Full boarders visit to the Berkshire Game and Country Fair

Following the end of the Year 6 activities the remaining boarders went with Mrs Sycklemoore, Miss Gluck and the two gappers to the Berkshire Game and Country Fair.  Held at the Newbury show ground, there was certainly lots to explore. Some had a fascinating discussion all about Elizabethan times with a local historian whilst others enjoyed the falconry, ferret, and reptile marquees.  The highlight seemed to be the flaming stunt man and the motorcycle stunt team display in the main arena!  Their £5 pocket money did not stretch very far but the children were able to buys some sweets and a drink.
