Year 6 Art Trip to Cornwall

The Art trip was great. The whole thing was lovely, ten out of ten. One of my favourite part of the trip was the theatre trip at the fabulous Minack Theatre, the actors were excellent.
It was a fun production of Pride and Prejudice, and the boys among us who have not read or seen the production made us feel we wanted to get to know Jane Austin’s writing. The four members of this lively cast, turned the production into a ‘costume drama’ with dozens of ultra-fast changes of gender, frocks and characters, a bit like Elstree’s productions. The fine Wedgwood style set design and backdrop was glorious on a stunning summers evening. Jane Austen’s novel was very cleverly and clearly represented, the story she wrote 200 years ago. The frantic writing of many letters with ostrich feather quill pens, and much travelling in a jolting carriage pulled by galloping horses with coconut hooves, added to the laughter.
My favourite gallery and art exhibition was Stanhope Forbes as I like realism. It was lovely to learn about the artist and his work at school and then see the work on the trip. We had a lovely time at the workshop at Penlee house as we travelled back in time to 1890 and met Betsy Lanyon, a Newlyn fishwife and artist’s model, we learnt about her life and work. Tom got to experience carrying a fisherwoman’s basket on his head and I loved asking Betsy many questions about her life and we then enjoyed spotting Betsy in the Newlyn School paintings. We then had a go at sketching her and learnt some words in the Cornish language.
The trip continued with an amazing selection of gallery and workshop visits and the area we were in was very beautiful. The youth hostel was very cosy and the food was very tasty. Overall, the trip was a lovely experience. Thank you to Mrs Syckelmoore and all of the staff who came.

I loved every second of the trip. Penlee House and Gallery, the tin mine and St. Michaels Mount was fantastic. My favourite visit was Barbara Hepworth museum and gardens. The other best bit was going to the Minack Theatre; I also loved the Chocolate Workshop and The Tate. We competed the trip with Newlyn Gallery and workshop. I loved every second.

Over all I think that the trip was a great success. I really enjoyed the whole duration of it. It was so fun because we learnt a lot about the different artists during the term and then we got the chance to see the paintings in real life. I really enjoyed visiting St. Michael’s mount, where we learnt a lot about the history and the castle’s beginnings. By the time of the Norman conquest in 1066, St Michael’s Mount had come into the possession of the monks of its sister isle, Mont St Michel in Normandy.  In the 12th century it was their hands that built the church and priory that still lie at the heart of the castle today. My favourite part of the trip was the visit to the Minack Theatre, where we watched ‘Pride and Prejudice’, as the sun set over the sea. Visiting St. Ives and the art galleries was also very interesting and so much fun. I really enjoyed the Art Trip, 2017.
