Year 5 Visit to the Jewish Museum

Year 5 recently visited the Jewish Museum in London for a day of culture, learning and history. They began with a look at some traditional prayer objects, such as the Torah, tallit, kippah, tefillin and rimonin. Time to open Google?

In the afternoon we had the great privilege of listening to Bernd, a man who escaped from Germany in 1938 on the kindertransport before WW2 began. He fascinated us with his stories of Kristallnacht – the night of the broken glass when Jewish shops, businesses and synagogues were smashed and burned – and waving his father goodbye for the last time at the train, and how he began life in strange old England. It was a riveting and stilling time, much appreciated by all.
