Staff Cricket v Bradfield College

In perfect conditions and on a somewhat lively wicket, the Elstree Gents welcomed a Bradfield College Staff XI for the second of their staff cricket matches.  The stage was set for a wonderful evening of cricket and with Bradfield heading in to bat first, the match began in earnest with a strong start for the visitors.  A combination of stoic defence and scything attacking strokes by Sanford and Clark, in the early stages of the innings, sent pulses racing as the top order batsmen made good headway.  This was very much the order of the day, as Bradfield ended on a very respectable 107 after their 16 overs.

The Elstree reply was spearheaded by good running between the wickets as well as several lofty blows in what was nothing short of a stylish knock by Owens.  He was ably assisted by the likes of Wyatt and Trumper, as the match went down to the wire.  Requiring double figures to win the match off the final over, the Gents fell four agonising runs short and will be looking to bounce back in their final match of the season, which takes place against the Elstree Parents.

Thank you to both teams and captains for playing in and organising a brilliant game and to the fantastic kitchen staff for providing what was unquestionably the highlight of the evening: a burger-filled barbeque.
