Rocket Science

The children at Home Farm are very excited to learn that we are one of the schools that has been selected to take part in the Rocket Science project.  This project is organised by the Royal Horticultural Society, the UK Space Agency and the European Space Agency with the intention of contributing to our knowledge of how we could preserve human life on another planet in the future and what astronauts need to survive long-term missions in space.

Tim Peake, the UK astronaut took 2kg of rocket seeds to the International Space Station in September where they have been subjected to micro gravity.  The seeds were flown back to earth on 2nd March and are being distributed to schools around the UK ready for planting.  We will receive two packets of 100 seeds, one has been in space, one has not. but we will not know which is which.  The seeds must be planted on 19th or 20th April in carefully controlled conditions and we will take measurements on day 10, 17, 21, 28 and 35. The results will then be entered into a database and then published nationally.

We are delighted to be participating in Rocket Science and look forward to recording the results.
