Remote Learning
Elstree’s Remote Learning Programme is divided into two sections. One is for our Prep School and the other for Pre-Prep. The programme is reviewed by our Academic and Pastoral Sub Committees every week. Parent and staff feedback is always welcome.
Elstree Prep Remote Learning Programme

Interactive live lessons
- School day between 8.30am and 4.30pm
- 4 hours of live core curriculum subjects per day (3 in the morning, 1 in the afternoon)
- 1.5 hours off screen for independent learning and to avoid screen fatigue
- Instant live feedback in lessons via Class Notebook
- Subject specialist live lessons in Music, Art, Drama, DT, PE, Coding and PSHE every week
- Assembly with Headmaster every Friday at 3.45pm
- Live Guest Speaker Talks provided by Senior Schools like Eton and Wellington College
Accessible teaching support
- Daily one-on-one with Form Tutors
- Additional Art Clubs and scholarship preparation
- Allocated Assistant tutors for pastoral care support
- Parent support and guidance for Senior School decision making from Senior Master/External Relations
- Senior School interview practice
- IT Helpdesk
- Optional individual lessons for LDD, Music and LAMDA arranged during lunchtimes
Inclusive collaborative learning
- Use of Breakout Rooms in Microsoft Teams
- Collaborative working spaces in lessons via Microsoft Class Notebook
- Class social time with Form Tutors

Pre-Prep Remote Learning Programme

Inspiring live lessons
- Suggested school day begins at 9.00am, except when assemblies are held (three times a week), when it starts at 8.30am
- Mindful morning activities delivered once a week
- Week finishes with a live celebration assembly
- 2 x 15–20-minute live introductions with class teacher for core English and Maths lessons every morning
- Children log off to complete work at own pace to avoid screen fatigue
- Teachers remain online for support and feedback to individuals
- All live lessons pre-recorded for families that require more flexibility
- Recommended morning break between 10.00 – 10.30am
- Recommended lunch break between 12.00 – 13.00
- Cross-curricular Topic (Humanities and Science), RS and Art sessions taught each week.
- 2 x Subject specialist lessons (Music, Drama, French and PE) taught by specialist teachers every afternoon
Real-time support
- Live session with class teacher every morning
- Class teachers available on-screen during English and Maths lessons when children complete their work
- Dedicated pastoral care support team
- IT Helpdesk available throughout the school day
- One-on-one 15-minute video chat with Class Teacher every week
- Parents invited to share children’s work with class teachers for instant feedback and for personal challenges
Broad balanced and creative curriculum

- In addition to English, Maths, Topic, RS and Art lessons, specialist teachers deliver 4 x PE, 2 x Music, 1 x Drama and 1 x French lessons every week
- Virtual workshop for Year 2 with Windsor Castle
- Visiting speakers
- 2 x Live story times each week (one with the Head of Pre-Prep and the other with a surprise guest)
- Remote celebration of World Book Day
- Remote themed day for every year group
- Community projects included in weekly planning when possible
- Weekend activities sent to parents to ease the need for more screen time
- ‘Show and Tell’ every Friday from 15.00-15.30 to complete the week
