Paralympian Talan Skeels-Piggens visits Elstree

On Friday 27th September, Talan Skeels-Piggens visited Elstree to talk about how his life dramatically changed following a serious motorcycle accident in 2003. The accident left him paralysed from the chest down. Soon after his accident, he made it his mission to learn to ski, represent Great Britain and go to the Paralympics. Once out of hospital, he dedicated his life to achieving this.  Seven years later, he went to the winter Paralympics in Vancover, representing Team GB.

Not one to rest on his laurels, Talan then set himself a new challenge. He re-learnt how to ride a motorcycle and in time becoming a national level racer and ACU racing instructor.

The boys listened attentively and fired numerous questions at him, despite the fact that the exeat was fast-approaching.  Talan challenged the boys to never give up, whatever the setbacks, and to be the best they can. This linked well with our thought of the week: ‘It always seems impossible until it is done.’
