The Oratory School Jazz Day

On the 22nd April, four orchestra and jazz band players went to the Oratory School for a jazz workshop. The jazz workshop was led by Mark Armstrong who is the Director of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra.  We had the drum and bass player from his orchestra assisting us during the day.

During most of the day we used no written music and Mr. Armstrong would play a note on his trumpet and we would have to play it back on our 35 instruments. We then played a piece of music to get ready in an hour to perform in a small concert. In the concert we performed the improvised piece where we all got to play a solo and the piece of music which we had prepared in that one hour. Overall the day was really fun and everyone enjoyed it.
