Open Weekend

Goodness me it has been a busy first weekend of term!  We have quite a large contingent of full boarders this term, plus a good number who had signed up for the Open Weekend so the boarding house has been really buzzing!  After a wonderful BBQ on the front lawn on Saturday evening, the Gappers organised a brilliant treasure hunt round the school grounds that saw the children tearing from one end of the campus to the other in search of cones, whilst also trying to solve some cryptic riddles. It really was lots of fun!

Everyone had a good lie in on Sunday morning before tucking into our traditional full-English breakfast which really set everyone up for the day. After breakfast the new boarders all did their Boarding Induction in the library before some football in the sports hall and out on the All Weather Pitch (AWP). We went for long walk through the countryside before lunch and were lucky to see an adder, some small frogs, a field mouse, plus lots of sheep and pheasants.

After lunch we had a good trip into Newbury where the children all bought some tuck (sweets/candy) and had a  browse of the shops. Poundland was definitely the favourite! Then it was back to Elstree for a swim and some free-time before supper and an early night.

Open Weekends

Elstree ‘Open Weekends’ are an opportunity for anyone to spend the weekend together during the first and last weekend of term. Besides spending time with friends, it gives pupils a taste of boarding life.   There are always fun activities on offer making the most of the extensive grounds at Elstree.

Boarding at Elstree

Around 50% of Elstree pupils in Year 4 – 8 board from one to seven nights of the week. Elstree’s flexible boarding model means children from Year 4 can weekly or flexi board.

Boarding is a home-from-home experience.  Children live with our House Parents in the main house, supported by a dedicated team of House Master and Mistresses, Matrons and a Nurse.

Elstree’s Headmaster and wife live next door and are also involved in boarding life during the week and weekends. Children are thrilled to see them and get very excited when they have the opportunity to walk one of their dogs.
