The Long Room was transformed into an intimate concert venue for the Musical soiree on Friday night. This annual event features some of Elstree’s top musicians and gives those auditioning for music scholarships this term the chance to perform their pieces in front of a small friendly and supportive audience.
We were treated to bassoon, oboe and viola pieces (interestingly all regarded as minority instruments by Senior Schools) as well as piano and singing items. In addition to the prospective scholars the programme was supplemented by a trumpet, violin and piano piece from other boys in Years 7 and 8. It also included a recitation from “To kill a mocking bird” which had us all transfixed.
It was a pleasure to hear the boys performing at their very best and we wish them well as they set off to their various Senior Schools for their scholarship days.
