Music and Art Trip to St Edward’s School, Oxford

We all left excitedly from Elstree at 9am on Tuesday morning to join eight other prep schools for a full day of music and art at St Edward’s School. Twenty-one enthusiastic choristers and four budding young artists from years 5 and 6 went to Oxford in glorious sunshine for a day of singing, dancing and art. When we arrived at St. Edwards we had a warm welcome followed by delicious refreshments. Mrs Westley took the choir to join ‘Teddies’ choir and orchestra, and Mrs Syckelmoore took 4 keen artists to become immersed within the art department for a full day of creativity. The boys produced screen printing silk kites, screen printed fish image compositions on paper which were then decorated with beads and acrylics, as well as designing their own t-shirts. The art work was then display within the theatre foyer for all to enjoy while refreshments were served to visitors before the main event on stage was performed.

At the same time, over 200 Prep School children had gathered to put together most of the first act of Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat. Upon arrival, each boy was given a specially designed brightly coloured T-shirt and taught the music for the songs by the charismatic Director of Music, Alex Tester. They were then taught some simple choreography by the school’s Head of Dance. Support was provided by a wonderful band of musicians and the role of Joseph and his brothers were taken by St Edward’s singers. The performance at the end of the day was attended by many parents and relatives, and enhanced by some effective lighting and dry ice! This type of venture was new for both St Edward’s and Elstree and proved to be great fun! We look forward to seeing the video!
