Ladybird Books Illustrator Exhibition

Our six potential art scholars enjoyed an engaging evening at The Base in Greenham, Newbury this week.  They joined Nick Aitchison, son of children’s illustrator Martin Aitchison, to view an exhibit of his father’s illustrations.

Famous for The Eagle magazine, Martin Aitchison was also the most prolific illustrator for the Ladybird Books between 1952 and 1963.

Nick entertained our pupils by sharing stories of growing up with his father. After spending valuable time taking in the exhibition, they settled down to a gripping talk – along with Head of Art, Mrs Syckelmoore who had organised the trip – titled: ‘The life behind Art’.
