Horrible Histories for World Book Day

Horrible Histories illustrator Martin Brown visited us as part of our World Book Day celebrations. The pupils enjoyed a fabulous presentation, briefly touching on the history of art from cave painting to Picasso. This expanded to an interactive session based on the popular Horrible Histories books. Children enjoyed watching Martin sketching, and helped draw some new characters together. Class workshops were also held where Martin talked of how he developed his illustrations for characters, showed examples and inspiring the pupils. Discussions also took place on the forthcoming film, the TV series, and the various challenges and immense fun depicting the various periods of history in the popular books.

Martin Brown said,  “World Book Day is the day we remind ourselves just how important books and reading can be. This World Book Day I had the privilege of coming into Elstree School and seeing that enthusiasm for books is alive and well. It was a brilliant day”.
