Headmaster’s Teas for New Pupils

It is customary for anyone new joining Elstree, including those who move from Pre-Prep to the Prep School, to be invited to an afternoon tea at the Headmaster’s House.

The Headmaster’s Tea is part of the process of helping new pupils settle in to Elstree.  Children meet Headmaster Mr Inglis and his wife Olivia at their house in year groups. It’s a chance to chat about life at Elstree in an informal setting.

This term’s teas

Headmaster’s Wife Mrs Inglis said:

“Our new pupils this term have royally entertained Mr and Mrs Inglis over the last few weeks with their wonderful company. There have been five teas in bubbles for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6, with a nightcap of hot chocolate to welcome our Spanish pupil Jaime in Year 7.

Between them, they have consumed copious amounts of delicious edible goodies and supped on gallons of hot chocolate.  A warm welcome to you all. You are now fully-fledged members of the Elstree family.”

A seamless transition to Elstree

The transition to Elstree starts when a child comes and sees the school on a tour. Usually accompanied by a Year 8 pupil, they get to see the school first-hand.

Their tour is then followed by a ‘New Pupils’ Day’ in the June before they are due to start. The day is an opportunity to experience what it’s like to be in their new form, meet their form tutor and find out who else is in their class.  Later on, parents rejoin their child/children and over tea get to meet other new parents.

A ‘Welcome’ before the Autumn Term

Our new pupils are then invited to a ‘Welcome’, held one afternoon near to the start of the Autumn Term. Aside from meeting their tutor and peers again, it’s a chance to familiarise themselves with the school, meet key members of staff, and drop off their sports kit and book bag. It makes the transition in to Elstree a lot smoother.

Family Fun afternoon for Elstree Pre-Prep

For Elstree Pre-Prep, a Family Fun afternoon is held in the Autumn term by the Friends of Elstree (Pre-Prep’s Committee Parent Body) on the Sunday before half term.  It’s a great event with lots of games and activities. While children can hook a duck, throw the wellie, play cricket and football, get their face painted or decorate a biscuit, parents can catch up with old friends and make new ones.
