Fencing Match away at Orley Farm, Harrow

Elstree school visited Orley Farm School in Harrow on 13th October for their first fencing match of the season and first in many years.

Two teams –  junior and senior fenced ‘poule uniques’ with everyone fencing each other to determine the best fencers overall.

In the Junior section, Year 3 pupil James won his first ever matches against Year 5 pupils who have fenced for several years. Jimmy and Arthur  recorded continuous victories over much more experienced opponents and won numerous tight matches. Lachy was the other member of the junior squad who fenced really well and scored numerous hits. With the final scores tied on 34 points each Elstree duo Jimmy and Arthur had a fence off in the final, with Arthur narrowly winning on this occasion. Well done to the Junior section!

The seniors had equally close matches with Carlo, Tristan and Jaime leading the challenge. They realised there were up against former European junior and regional champions from the off and took a while to get into their stride. Many of the matches were very close and composure and experience is required in these tight situations.  Well done to Jaime who finished 3rd overall.

The close matches showed how far the Elstree boys have progressed in such a short space of time, which bodes well for further matches and tournaments this season.
