Elstree’s eco-considerate Bonfire Night

The Elstree Bonfire night on Friday was a huge success, particularly as it adopted a more environmental approach.  As initiated by the Eco Committee, Friends of Elstree were challenged to significantly reduce their use of plastic this year.

They certainly rose to the eco-challenge, replacing flashing plastic toys with reusable neon beanies and arm bands, along with reusable enamel mugs.

With the Neon Disco as entertainment, and stalls selling hot chocolate, hot dogs, popcorn and mulled wine for parents, the explosion of colour from the fireworks (and neon beanies and arm bands) illuminated the sky over Elstree.  One pupil was overheard saying: “This is the best Bonfire Night ever!”

Thank you to our groundsmen, who did an incredible job building the bonfire and organising the fireworks, and a special thank you to everyone else involved.
