Elstree Singles and Team Tennis Tournament

The 1st IV Tennis team played gallantly in the Elstree Tennis Tournament on Sunday 23rd April.  Summer Fields, Cothill and Ludgrove took part in the tournament and 16 boys played in the knock out singles tennis tournament with a play-off match in each round, and a plate competition running parallel to the main draw. Every boy played four short sets throughout the morning.  There was a good dose of team spirit and fair play during the day and there were many ‘good shots’ to be heard down on Bates. We were lucky with the weather and the sun shone brightly.

After an exciting 1st round, we managed to get three Elstree boys into the quarter finals. Our number one seed, Alvaro made it into the semi- final and fought a hard battle against Ludgrove number 1, narrowly missing out on going through to the final. It was lovely to see all 16 boys continuing to try their hardest, even in their fourth match, to enable their school to win the team shield. The last round of matches were fairly even with most opposite seeds playing each other. The higher placings of the whole Elstree team meant that Elstree came out on top and won the team shield which was brilliant. The Summer Fields first seed deservedly won the singles tournament. All in all, an excellent morning of high level tennis was had by all. Well done Elstree 1st IV tennis boys!
