Elstree School’s Book Week

Elstree School Book Week started with all the fun of Character and Costumes Day and the inspiring theme of  ‘Stage and Screen’.  The school grounds, library and classrooms were full of excited boys transformed into characters from James Bond to The Hobbit, and Hucklebury Finn to the BFG.

Elstree were also delighted to welcome Steve Cole, bestselling author of the hugely popular ‘Astrosaurs’,‘Young Bond’, ‘Z-Rex’, and many other series.   Steve presented three different action packed shows to complement the different year groups. Younger boys loved his witty singing with his ukulele and working together to produce zany ideas and make monster characters and stories.  Older boys benefited from an insight into how Steve researched, formed and wrote the character of Young Bond in the 1930s.

Steve Cole enthused, “It was a treat to come in for Elstree Book week. The children were great listeners, brim-full of ideas and questions.  From dinosaurs in space to James Bond, we shared stories, invented characters and celebrated chucking imagination at words, to the make the ultimate pastime device – The Book!”

Throughout the week a variety of activities took place celebrating storytelling, illustration, books and reading.
