Elstree included in The Cricketer Schools Guide 2021

It’s official! Elstree has been selected as one of the Top 50 Prep/Junior schools in The Cricketer Schools Guide 2021.

Record number of entries

It follows an exhaustive process that saw a record number of schools submit entries, despite of the pandemic. All entries were judged against an extensive set of criteria.  These included a compelling commitment to cricket in the curriculum, facilities, fixture programmes and coaching.

The Cricketer worked alongside former England star Lydia Greenway to make the selection, including the inaugural top 20 all-girls schools.

The Cricketer magazine editor Simon Hughes said: “This year’s Schools Guide is particularly important in showcasing our schools. They have kept the game alive through a very challenging summer. Whether it has been remote video sessions, drills in the garden or even Zoom quizzes, schools cricket has emerged resolutely from this pandemic. The appetite to get back out on the playing fields is palpable.

There should be deserved praise for all the teachers, coaches and volunteers who have put in so much hard work. During the most difficult circumstances, they have managed to preserve a love of the game among the next generation.

“Congratulations to all of the schools included and we look forward to hearing about all of your future successes.”

The Cricketer Schools Guide 2021 available on newsstands now!

The 148-page bumper-packed guide, accompanies the December issue and is available to buy on newsstands now. Aside from print, the guide will also be made available on The Cricketer website from Tuesday December 15.

Durant Cricket has supported the production of the guide.  Its Managing Director Cristian Durant said: “Durant Cricket are one of the country’s leading suppliers of cricket ground equipment to cricket clubs, professional counties and schools across the country, and have enjoyed a long and distinguished relationship with The Cricketer and are proud to support the magazine’s fantastic coverage of school cricket.

We would like to congratulate all of the schools who are featured in this prestigious guide. From everybody involved in our game we thank all schools for their dedication to keeping the game alive in the most difficult of circumstances this year. This commitment has ensured our game will bounce back stronger than ever next summer.”

Cricket at Elstree

Cricket is the main sport of the Summer Term, with up to sixteen teams playing on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  Elstree is lucky to have Berkshire County Cricket’s Captain, Mr James Morris, as one of its Senior Masters, and it’s thanks to him that the spirit of cricket was kept alive during the summer.
