Elstree Football Leagues – Round 11
Our roving reporter – old Elstree pupil and current Gapper Ed – shares last week’s results from the Elstree Football Leagues AT 2020.
Ding, ding…Round 11
Round 11 of the Elstree Football Leagues got off to a flying start this week. Starting with Year 3’s matches, Beenham Blast and Douai Daredevils took full advantage of the bonus points system and opened up an early gap at the top of the table.
The Year 4 round of fixtures was played at an extremely high tempo, leaving players and referees breathless. The Elstree girls led the way with some stupendous long-shots, while Henry P achieved a hat-trick in the first half.
But despite all this, the Year 4 teams were unable to upset the standings, with an extremely tight overall set of points, leaving it all to play for, as senior games got underway.
Outstanding passes in the Elstree Football League
Year 5 teams showcased their professional team play with some outstanding passing moves. But by the end of the games, it left the Greenham Giants with some catching up to do, as they continue to find their perfect match plan.
Meanwhile, the Year 6 competition was as fierce as ever. Elstree was definitely the place to be on Friday afternoon. Games included this week’s top scorer Gabriel, who grabbed five goals including a hat-trick and a later winner.
The two matches set the tone, with confident performances from both the Douai Daredevils and the Woolhampton Wanderers. However, it was not their day overall, as Beenham Blast fought back strongly over the next two games, collecting a full six points in their second game, leaving them top of the group that afternoon.
The Year 7 and 8 matches were so competitive that neither teams were able to collect their maximum points. Goals were coming from all over the four pitches, resulting in points being evenly spread between the four teams.
Top of the league for Round 11
The week ended with the Beenham Blast finishing top of the league once again. They have now opened up a slightly bigger lead in the overall table. Meanwhile, at the other end, the Greenham Giants are closing the gap, with a good set of performances this week. It is still all to play for in the Elstree Football Leagues.
