Elstree boys at Pangbourne College Orchestral Fun Day
Pupils of Elstree were among over 60 young people who participated this week in this year’s Pangbourne College Orchestral Fun Day. The day included sectional rehearsals for all sections of the orchestra including Strings by Mr Robert Hodge (who is also conductor of the National Children’s Orchestra South Easterlies Orchestra). Pupils learned about the importance of posture, clever ways of remembering rhythm and the value of counting bars’ rest. They also learned two new pieces from scratch.
The Strings section accompanied Pangbourne College student, Rylan Li, in his performance of an arrangement of Vittorio Monti’s difficult but well known ‘Csardas’. The concert ended with the much loved songs from ‘The Sound of Music’ arranged by Director of Music at Pangbourne College, Mr Roy Raby, and during ‘Climb every mountain’ members of the audience, who included family and friends, joined in singing.
