Elstree At The Double

Elstree hosted Ludgrove twice over the weekend and came away with victories on both occasions. On Saturday the 1st XI played well against a robust Ludgrove team and did extremely well to record a 2-0 win.  On Sunday, the Old Boys’ team repeated the feat in a very competitive match against Ludgrove’s Old Boys.  Elstree survived the initial onslaught from the visitors and slowly took command in midfield playing some very attractive passing football.  Mid-way through the first half Elstree took the lead when a flowing move was finished off at the far post. A second was soon to follow and then the goal of the game scored by Tom Forsdike.

Three nil at half time should have been ‘game over’ but not when you are playing Ludgrove. The opposition scored within seconds of starting the second half and then scored again with fifteen minutes to go. However, the Elstree players regained their composure and some quick passing and determined tackling, particularly by former Headmaster Syd Hill’s man of the match Thomas Benyon, ensured a victory. Many thanks to Ludgrove for travelling to West Berkshire and contributing to a very, very good game of football.
