Christmas Carols at Douai Abbey
It was wonderful to return to Douai Abbey for our Christmas Carol Service this year. This was our third and final service, meticulously planned for the last day of term.
Everyone left for the Christmas break on a high, with carols ringing in their ears. Many said they thought this carol service was the best, which wasn’t a surprise as the pupils had sung the same material for the previous two.
Back in the beloved abbey, where the acoustics are second-to-none, it was a memorable occasion for Mrs Westley who celebrated her tenth Elstree carol service.
The choir looked and sang like angels. Highlights included the former carol chart-topper and tear-jerker “O holy night”, and Heather Finlay’s favourite “Gaudete”. As everyone recessed down the nave singing their hearts out as they went, it felt like Christmas had well and truly begun.
