Bonanza boarding weekend
What a bonanza boarding weekend it was at Elstree for the end of the Lent Term. First, Lara and the Catering Team treated boarders to an early Easter supper. Then, Year 8 was ‘virtually’ social for their Big Weekend.
An early Easter treat for a bonanza boarding weekend
A surprise was in store for our boarders on Friday night, who gasped in delight when they walked into the dining room. Lara and the Catering Team had pulled out all the stops. Decorated with daffodils and balloons and early Easter treats, the children couldn’t believe their eyes.
The menu included mini burgers, chicken goujons and honey and mustard cocktail sausages. There were also curly fries, onion rings and salad. And if that wasn’t enough, for pudding, they were treated to crème egg brownies and muffins.
After thanking all the catering team, there was just enough time for a quick game of ‘Heads or Tails’. This was swiftly followed by some fun in the Sports Hall, AWP and Plantation.
The whole evening was fantastic, and there was a lovely atmosphere both at supper and in the boarding house later on.
Being virtually social with Downe House
Year 8 was bursting with excitement for their rearranged virtual social with Downe House on Saturday night. Although naturally disappointed not to be hosting the girls at Elstree for ‘Casino Royale’, the Teams Quiz still proved to be lots of fun.
Thanks to Oli’s suggestion of making ‘Mocktails’ as a pre-quiz aperitif ice-breaker, everyone appeared on screen with a splash of colourful concoctions and mini umbrellas.
As the evening progressed and conversation began to flow, it was great to see new friendships develop and old friends become reacquainted.
Head of Boarding Mr Iain Hepburn said: “Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I would like to express my sincere thanks to Downe House for kindly hosting. We are very much looking forward to returning the favour here at Elstree next term; God willing!”
Boarding at Elstree
Around 50% of Elstree pupils board from one to seven nights of the week. Elstree’s flexible boarding model means children from Year 4 can weekly or flexi board.
Boarding is a home-from-home experience. Children live with our House Parents in the main house, supported by a dedicated team of House Master and Mistresses, Matrons and a Nurse.
Elstree’s Headmaster and wife live next door and are also involved in boarding life during the week and weekends. Children are thrilled to see them and get very excited when they have the opportunity to walk one of their dogs.
Independent Boarding School of the Year 2020
From 300 nominations nationwide and the only UK Prep School, Elstree was crowned the Best Boarding School at the prestigious Independent Schools of the Year (ISOTY) Awards 2020. Furthermore, we were a finalist in the category of Best Independent Pre-Prep School.
