Boarders’ ‘Escape from Colditz’ Weekend

From the whirling, crashing sounds of the McMullen Hall air raid shelter in red-light mode to the still and creepy silence of the Park fields, the boys engaged their senses on the Elstree Escape from Colditz Remembrance Weekend. Having assumed POW identities, they stormed out of the shooting range and its relative safety to navigate through the dark toward Planatation – a just silhouette on a faraway hill. Four guards patrolled the grounds with high-powered Maglites and dog, while Major Disappointment prepared the winners’ campfire and marshmallows in the end zone. Only 20 out of 65 made it… While boys will talk about the best route, real mention should be made of those prize-winners for: Best Outfit; Closest Shave; Best Stealth; Last Escape. As ever, the night continues to be a hot (but soggy) favourite in the Boarders’ diary.
