A wonderful wet weekend!
Elstree Boarders did not need to worry about the wet weekend! Aside from lots of indoor sports, an exciting trip to Caversham Lakes was on the agenda.
Boarders have bags of fun at Caversham Lakes
Once there, the children got into wetsuits and buoyancy aids, before hurling themselves onto the giant inflatable obstacle course on the lake. While some weren’t too amused to be wearing their protective yellow hats, once bouncing around, their pride was soon forgotten.
Perfect politeness over the wet weekend
Head of Boarding Mr Hepburn was very proud of how well behaved the boarders had been over the wet weekend. He said: “The children have been such good company this weekend – polite, well-mannered and appreciative. It really has been a pleasure to look after them.”
Year 8’s BIG Weekend coming up!
As restrictions ease, social events are once again returning to the Summer Term calendar, much to everyone’s excitement.
This is especially true for Year 8, who will be enjoying their final BIG Weekend over the 22nd to 23rd May weekend. Aside from a spot of Zorb football, Elstree will host the Downe House girls for a Summer Social. The plan is to have a relaxing evening of tennis, rounders, a BIG BBQ and lots of time to chat.
Elstree ‘Big Weekends’ are arranged for an entire year group to spend the weekend together. Besides spending time with friends, it gives day pupils a taste of boarding life. Saturdays usually involve pupils socialising with a visiting school or making giant catapults during bush craft fun. The entertainment continues into Sunday with Zorb football on the full-size all-weather pitch or laser tag in the woods.
Boarding at Elstree
Around 50% of Elstree pupils board from one to seven nights of the week. Elstree’s flexible boarding model means children from Year 4 can weekly or flexi board.
Boarding is a home-from-home experience. Children live with our House Parents in the main house, supported by a dedicated team of House Master and Mistresses, Matrons and a Nurse.
Elstree’s Headmaster and wife live next door and are also involved in boarding life during the week and weekends. Children are thrilled to see them and get very excited when they have the opportunity to walk one of their dogs.
Independent Boarding School of the Year 2020
From 300 nominations nationwide and the only UK Prep School, Elstree was crowned the Best Boarding School at the prestigious Independent Schools of the Year (ISOTY) Awards 2020. Furthermore, we were a finalist in the category of Best Independent Pre-Prep School.
