Boarding Open Weekend

On Saturday night a group of boarders met in the Long Room to pit their wits against the bookies at the annual Boarders’ Race Night. Mr Attwood guided the boys through the form (or lack of) for each horse and Miss Gluck was the ‘honest’ bookie looking after the takings/winnings. There was great excitement in every race as the boys’ fortunes fluctuated wildly before the final race where most punters cashed in their winnings and went ‘all in’.  Over the course of the six races on the card there were a real mix of winners and losers, and the runners in each race were cheered enthusiastically and increasingly noisily by their backers as the evening progressed.   Our best individual winner was Daniel with £79,550.00 and Table 3 who collectively won £105,925.00. A good night was had by all!

On Sunday morning the boarders enjoyed their usual full English breakfast before church and some free time before lunch.  In the afternoon they went Ten-pin bowling in Thatcham which was terrific fun. Our new Gap student, Mr. Wall, was incredible and scored 140! Afterwards the boys enjoyed spending their pocket money in the arcades and on some tuck.  The weekend ended with a relaxing evening, calling home and some of the boys working on their Declamations preparations.
