Lecture: ‘The Unlikely Heroes of Telemark’

On the morning of Saturday 17th March, Mr Alex Lowrie gave an exciting lecture about ‘The Heroes of Telemark’.  He spoke of the mission to destroy the heavy water factory in German-controlled Norway.  He explained how his great uncle Hans Storhaug (one of the commandos in the raid) broke into the factory, blew it up and escaped, unharmed by the thousands of German soldiers hunting the team down.

Toward the end of his talk he showed some photos and videos of his charity trek to recreate the epic journey in 2017 which raised lots of money for the Alzheimer’s Society and the SBS (Special Boat Service) Association.  He also showed us how bad the conditions were and some of the equipment he used in the trek.
