Senior Choir sing at Bath Abbey

Elstree’s Senior Choir visited the stunning location of Bath Abbey on Thursday to lead Choral Evensong. The Bath stone looked glorious in the spring sunshine and the boys sang their hearts out after having filled themselves with fudge and ice-cream in their tea-break.

The acoustic in the Abbey was absolutely wonderful and the boys enjoyed being accompanied on the large impressive organ by the Abbey’s assistant organist, who demonstrated its versatility and sheer power. The service required the boys to learn Anglican psalm chanting as well as a setting of the Magnificat and Nunc dimittis and two sets of Versicles and Responses. The boys rose extremely well to this new challenge and their hard work preparing for this event was rewarded by them performing at their very best, receiving compliments not only on their singing but on their attitude and behaviour generally. The Choir was invited back – always the sign of a successful service, and I hope the boys will have had an experience that will live long in their memories.
