Year 8s take over teaching

What could be more rewarding following the Common Entrance exams, than stepping in to your teachers’ shoes for the morning? Following a morning of intensive training, our Year 8s spent the next two days preparing to take over teaching at Elstree School.

Selecting anything from 3CMS English and 6EG History to 7AJP Maths, they diligently planned challenging topics for the first teaching role of their lives.

While some delivered work from their academic scholarships, others initiated contentious debates on  euthanasia.

The most unusual lesson, had to be the chicken (not harmed, of course) used for Year 5 on figures of speech (MAPOS), which evidently made quite an impression:

“When I found out my partner was going to bring a chicken in, I just had to trust him, and hope that nothing went wrong…”  Charlie

“As I stepped in to the next door room trying to find my work sheets, I heard an eruption of squawking coming from inside.”  Luca

An engaging and insightful time was had by all:

“As I went through the morning teaching children a year younger than myself, the thing I noticed the most, was how well my students listened.”  Jack

“Teaching is much more stressful than I thought. Trying to keep your lesson interesting for 30 minutes is very hard.”  Rupert

“I think 7AJP taught me more about maths than I taught them!”  Zander
