Year 6 Art Trip

I thought the Leach Pottery was amazing. It was founded by Bernard Leach (Clue in the name) in 1940. We saw work influenced by Japan and England; we also made our own pots and painted them. They are being sent to the school after they have been fired in the kiln. It was so much fun. We then went to the Tate where we studied paintings and discussed the mood; it was great drawing all the pictures we could there.

We then went to The Barbara Hepworth museum and garden, where we studied her sculptures; we also saw some unfinished ones.

We had a chance to design and make our own sculptures from card inspired by her work. Thank you so much for the art trip Mrs Syckelmoore, I think it has made me a better artist. Mr Smith, the trip was so fun with you; I hope you had a good time too. Thank you for giving up your half term.

Johnny

After our great pottery workshop we then walked through a maze of streets and alleyways until we arrived at the Tate. We had our lunch before we met Paul our guide for the rest of the day. He led us through the various galleries where we discussed and drew, we then met up with him again in the Barbara Hepworth museum and gardens.

At the end of the day a seagull stole my ice-cream!!! We then walked back to the hotel for supper; I was hungry when we got back. Thank you so much Mrs Syckelmoore and to Mr Smith for helping  for all the things we have done on the art trip, I enjoyed all of them.

On Saturday after packing our rucksacks for the day we set off for Leach Potteries, where we found out about Bernard Leach’s inspiration from Japan and also learnt about his life.

Afterwards we went to the Tate and looked at the incredible artwork. I loved the whole art trip.
