Wellington Orchestra Day

“It’s going to hurt a bit.”

Not a visit to the doctor but a trip to an orchestral Day at Wellington, hosted in their magnificent brand new performing arts centre, complete with ‘Cultural Living Room’.

This was music-making of the highest order with an immense amount of technical detail;  for example, the violinists learnt how to retake the bow successfully, how to count in compound time, how to cope with fast broken chord passages, when not to shift out of position , and the art of tremolando!

The playing was superb, the coaching impressive, the food plentiful (seconds of sausage , chips and doughnuts available!) and the final concert for parents at the end of the long day  (Alex remarked he felt as if he had been sitting on his chair for 3 days!) truly uplifting.  Boys -your hard work and concentration was wonderful and paid off in what I think was the best performance I have ever heard at one of these events.
