Sports Day

Sports Day on Saturday was a quintessentially English event.  The sun shone and the skies were clear as the boys and girls headed up to the athletics track for the morning’s events.  Running, jumping, hurdling, throwing, javelin, discus, relays and the tug of war kept everyone busy and entertained and a friendly but competitive house spirit prevailed.  The Victor Ludorum winners were U9/10 Gabriel Warley, U11 Archie Smith, U12 Ned Hine, U13 Thomas Houston & U14 Alex Lee who thrilled us with their athleticism. West emerged as the winning house, and Zac Peskin as house captain, received the trophy from his mother who kindly presented all the prizes. Picnics on the Front Lawn followed  and a delicious  Leavers’ lunch for Year 8 in the Dining Room,  before the afternoon events began.   Firstly the swimming finals took place with some exciting and close fought races.  Families were able to wander round the classrooms, listen to the concert in the McMullen Hall, watch cricket and tennis displays and enjoy the art and DT exhibitions around the school.  The Jazz Band performed on the terrace before everyone headed in the marquee for the speeches and end of term prize giving.  Tea on the Front Lawn concluded  the day before everyone headed away for a well-deserved exeat break.
