Sports Day

Sports Day on Saturday was a scorcher with temperatures soaring throughout the day. It was a wonderful opportunity to see Elstree at its best.  In the morning the boys took part in the athletics events, brilliantly masterminded by Mr Smith, with boys representing their Houses: North, South, East and West.  The Year 8 families then gathered in the dining room for a delicious lunch with the staff, and the rest of the families picnicked in the shade on the front lawn.

Activities in the afternoon included a fencing competition, tennis on Bates, swimming finals, art displays, ICT demonstrations,  DT exhibitions, science experiments, a cricket show case and a beautiful concert in the new music school.  The jazz band played on the terrace as everyone gathered in the marquee for the speeches and prizes.  In his speech, The Headmaster concluded with some sound advice that we all need three bones in our bodies: a backbone, a wishbone and a funny bone. Many congratulations to Hugo Barnes for an outstanding and thoroughly entertaining Head Boy’s speech. Tea on the lawn followed before everyone headed away for a well-earned exeat.
