Open Weekend – Christmas Party
Our final weekend of the term has been a belter! We kicked off on Saturday night with the Boarders’ Christmas Supper and Party which was terrific fun. The dining room was beautifully decorated and the dorm captains had chosen a delicious menu. To start with we had a selection of antipasti to share, followed by pork belly, hassle back potatoes and roasted vegetables. For pudding we had an amazing popcorn, cream and toffee concoction! We all took the opportunity to thank the matrons, House tutors, Sister, and all the kitchen staff for looking after us so well all term, and then the meal ended with Mr. Inglis leading a hilarious, adapted version of the (Elstree) 12 Days of Christmas!
We then adjourned to the McMullen Hall for some traditional party games which included competitions to wrap ourselves up in loo roll, the cereal box game (Harry and Sergey were seriously impressive!) smartie challenges using only chopsticks…..the whole evening was a hoot!
We were up early on Sunday morning for a hearty full English breakfast in PJs followed by the eagerly anticipated, and hotly contested, Christmas Dorm Decorating Competition! Mrs. Hepburn and Mrs. Anderson were the judges and the standard was unbelievably high. Most dorms performed a song or some music to present their dorms to the judges and my goodness they were good! The judge’s favourite performance was a solo from Alex A but the winning dorm in Sanderson’s was Studd and Romney took the honours in Coopers.
Then it was straight off to church and a thought-provoking sermon from Mr. Prichard before some free time and lunch. After lunch, Miss. Gluck, the Gappers and I took the boys ice skating in Basingstoke (quickly dubbed Amazingstoke!) after an hour careering round on the ice. We then whizzed into town to buy our Secret Santa gifts and the obligatory bag-full of tuck.
