Old Boys 175th Year Football

Lower, bathed in glorious autumn sunshine, was the venue for the latest Old Boys football match. This time the OBs, assembled and Captained by Alex Fryer, were challenged by a Headmaster’s XI organised by Luke Owens and consisting of a mixture of current parents and Elstree staff.

The OBs looked resplendent in their new kit with the 175th Anniversary badge proudly displayed on shirts and shorts.

A large crowd waited expectantly on the bank overlooking Lower and they were not to be disappointed. Both sides played with some skill and plenty of effort throughout  An even first half ended narrowly in the Old boys’ favour – Tom Forsdike scoring the only goal. However, the second half was not so close with Tom scoring a second. A third quickly followed and then as time was fast running out, Tom Benyon rounded off a fine string of passes to score the ultimate team goal.

Many thanks to Trevor Kidson for refereeing, what was a competitive and keenly fought encounter, so well.

The morning ended with a drink and pizza (thank you Simon and Sarah Attwood) and much reminiscing of matches and footballing exploits from the past (some from the distant past!). A hugely enjoyable day was had by everyone and talk of next year could be heard as the teams departed.
