Music by Candlelight

The annual Music by Candlelight Concert has become a firm favourite in the Elstree musical calendar and the choral singing was enhanced by some atmospheric candle lighting. The choir entered to Gaudete and then performed eight of their favourite anthems.

The programme also included three beautifully delivered readings by Year 7 boys, together with violin and organ solos from last year’s music scholars, Dmitry and Kevin; it was lovely to see them again and hear them inspiring future musicians.

The choir’s lovely singing  was well received by a large and appreciative audience (the Choir have already received invitations to perform in other venues!) and a retiring collection raised funds for St Peter’s Church.  A member of the audience wrote to say:

‘We had the great pleasure in attending the service of choral music and readings on Friday and wish to say how impressed we were with the standard of performance and the choice of music.  Your brave choice of the William Mathias was so impressive, ably accompanied by Liz Collins, which contrasted beautifully with the intensity of your ‘I’m going up a yonder’.  From classical to modern, a brilliant programme.  Our other great pleasure was to see the obvious enthusiasm shown by the boys in taking part and being inspired by the challenge. I hope these events will give the boys a lifelong interest in choral singing.’

Thank you very much to all this involved.
