Music by Candlelight Concert
This is always an atmospheric occasion and this year was no exception. By the light of hundreds of flickering candles the large Chapel Choir sang ten of their favourite anthems including old chestnuts such as ‘The Vicar of Dibley’ theme and ‘On Eagle’s Wings’ as well as a new addition to the repertoire -Chantez alleluia – all in French (especially for you, Madam Simonin!).
The music was interspersed with three readings and the congregation joined in with two Welsh hymns (as it was St David’s Day and our headmaster is Welsh!) We also appreciated two stunning solos from old Elstree boys who are currently music exhibitioners at Radley – Rohan and Harry – who performed on the double-bass (a first for St Peter’s surely?) and trumpet respectively. They received a warm welcome and everyone was delighted to see and hear them again.
The evening began with Eddie standing on the chancel top step in the darkness holding a candle singing ‘One Single Light’, and ended with the choir leading the way down the lantern-lit path to the Long Room for delicious canapés and wine!
As a Year 8 parent commented “The boys’ singing was outstanding …Congratulations on another wonderful musical evening! We so enjoyed it and we will miss these very special occasion”. Put next year’s date in your diaries now!
