At Elstree we organise many trips and visits off-site. As part of our curriculum, as well as for recreation and reward, these opportunities enhance learning and broaden boys’ experiences. We believe in the value of these out of school experiences which are always carefully planned, organised, supervised and evaluated, using a designated member of staff as an 'Educational Trips Coordinator'. Elstree also looks to include trips and visits that are pertinent to a particular age and the curriculum.
Regularly yearly trips include:
Year 3 go on a theatre trip and later in the year visit the Roman Amphitheatre at Silchester.
Year 4 experience a night at the Science Museum as well as enjoying a history visit to a Victorian Schoolroom at the Reading Museum.
Year 5 have a French residential field trip to Normandy as well as an Art Trip to Wyld Court Rainforest.
Year 6 carry out Leadership training at ‘Head 4 Heights’ at the Cotswold Water Park and at ‘Adventure Dolphin’ near Pangbourne.
Year 7 undertake a French trip in Normandy where attractions on offer are visits to Dinan, Mont St. Michel and Bayeux. They also have an Art Trip to the National Gallery in the Summer Term.
Year 8 visit Dartmoor as part of the Geography Project on the River Plym, they also undertake a scientific beach survey and various team-building exercises which include: coasteering, caving and sailing. They visit the Globe theatre, Tate Modern and watch a West End show in London. They also have a Leavers’ Trip to Wales post-Common Entrance.
We also offer various activity camps for the children during the school holidays. These again can add so much to their overall educational experience and also help develop independence. In 2008/2009 the following trips have been organised:
Easter holidays: School Ski Trip to Serre Chevalier open to all boys.
Summer holidays: Camping Trip for boys in year 5-7 and a Technology Camp which is open to all boys.
