The prestigious Elstree Award is Elstree’s own annual award scheme, based on the Duke of Edinburgh Award. It focuses on service to the community as well as to the school, developing pupils’ individual and team skills and their ability to take on a challenge.
Each boy in Year 7 is guided and given the opportunity to work and challenge themselves in a range of activities, pursuits and projects, all within the safe environment of the school grounds.
These include
- Emergency First Aid Course
- Organising and helping with successful PALS visits on Saturdays
- The “Working Bee” day where pupils are involved in an assortment of projects – from painting the shooting range to clearing footpaths
- Assisting pupils from Home Farm and the Junior section of the school with reading exercises
- A life-saving course
- and finally, the ever-popular and challenging 24-hour camp, giving the boys the opportunity to take part in initiative exercises and develop leadership skills whilst camping out in our park.
The Elstree Award is the Year 7 component of a wider Year 5 to Year 8 Leadership Programme.
