The Department’s scheme of work is grounded in the National Curriculum. The boys are taught to express themselves confidently both orally and through written work. As the boys progress through the school, the study of literary texts helps them to broaden and develop their comprehension and study skills.

The scholarship class follows a two-year rolling syllabus. It focuses on literary analysis and critical appreciation as well as looking in depth at various genres of literature. Boys in the scholarship class are encouraged to form their own opinions about any text and learn how to present a balanced and cogent argument to support their point of view.
