The Ridgeway Walk 2010

Proud Walkers on the way to raising £10,000

After all a lot of teeth sucking and frowning as to what the weather would do on Saturday 1st May, all fears were allayed and the weather was clement! Over 400 pupils, parents, staff and friends walked the 10 mile course along one of the most beautiful parts of the Berkshire and Oxfordshire countryside. Messer’s Perry, Tapper and Schuman lead the way with a small group of boys and managed to complete the course in a little under 3 hours. These intrepid lead walkers had set off at 09.30 and crossed the finish line just before midday. At around 1.00 Mr Bates and Mr Andy Ward were sighted approaching the finish as the tail end Charlies.
Elstree were supporting the Help for Heroes charity, with Mr Attwood having already completed the Paris Marathon in those shorts! We were also continuing to support the Celebrating Alec charity of the Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust; a cause very dear to all our hearts. The Normand family and friends turned out in force and completed the walk with their typical humour and vigour. The target is to raise over £10,000 for these charities and we are well on the way.
Many thanks go to Prue Matchwick and Steve Bates for all their hard work in organization and logistical management. Congratulations should go to all the boys who took part; they can be very proud of their achievement!
