Spring Concert
A marvellous medley of music

The final music concert of the spring term took place on Monday 22nd March to a packed hall and involved over a hundred boys plus the Home Farm choir. There was a wide variety of music, from the rousing sound of the African drum group, to the mellow ringing of the hand bells. All of the groups which currently rehearse on a weekly basis were represented, some of them making their first concert appearance. There was also a range of level and ability – boys who have only been learning for a few weeks were playing alongside their more experienced counterparts in a wonderful team effort. The concert gave both boys and groups, some of whom are in their formative stages, their first taste of performing providing great encouragement for future development.
There were engaging performances combining classroom percussion instruments and singing, a rendition of the Can-Can from all the string players in the school (violins, cello and double bass), a percussion fanfare specially composed for the school, and involving audience participation at the end, along with items from three separate choirs, and wonderful brass and woodwind playing, ably led by the visiting music teachers. It was nice to see co-operation between staff and pupils, as for example in the Beatles number ”Here comes the sun”, where three Year 8 pupils were joined by Mr. Bowman-Shaw and Mr. Thorpe. The concert ended on a high with the fantastic foot-tapping “Louie, Louie” from the Jazz Band, and all three choirs joining together for Amani Utupe na ustawi, accompanied by some characteristically African sounds from the percussion teachers. Thanks must go to all the visiting music teachers for preparing the boys, and giving up their time to support the concert. We are grateful to  Miss Collins for accompanying, and to Home Farm choir for joining us. Well done to all of the pupils for their hard work and commitment.
