The Elstree X Factor
20 Talented Acts perform to a surprise guest.

With all the hype surrounding Danyl Johnson reaching the semi-final of the X Factor, it seemed fitting that Elstree staged their own version of the popular talent show. Mrs. Lamb and Mrs. Drury conceived and implemented the idea and the Elstree X Factor was born. The auditions took place in the penultimate week of term; there were so many entries that 2 days were needed to audition everyone. The boys auditioned in front of a discerning panel of judges and entrants were narrowed to a final line up of 20 acts.

The acts were predominantly singing and dancing and even a mime act. An outside panel of judges was imported so as to oversee fair play. Mr. Malcolm Gunningham from Downe House, Miss Liz Collins from Home Farm, Mr. Tim Dellor, Elstree old boy and BBC radio presenter and Miss Sam Gudger from BBC Radio Berkshire. The judges watched all the acts and came up with, in no particular order, the final 3:
  • Alex Loughlin with a dance routine to JLS.
  • Henry Bearman on the piano and singing his own composition.
  • Joe Roads, Nico Rooth, Robert Duncan, Brendan Boobbyer, Ravi Bhusate and Ned Mitchell sang Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now!
Alex Loughlin won after a public vote!
Some members of the Elstree Common Room brought the audience back to the 80's when they performed the song 'Feed the World' looking uncannily like the original 'Band Aid'.  The most memorable part of the event was the surprise appearance of our own Danyl Johnson. Danyl sang 'Man in The Mirror', he then stayed to watch the event and present the prizes. Danyl spoke to all the boys, providing them with the inspiration and determination to succeed.

A huge vote of thanks goes to Mrs. Lamb and Mrs. Drury for all their tireless work in organizing and staging this magnificent event.
